Smith has 30 years of journalistic experience and has covered religion for the past 20 years. He previously worked as the religion writer for The Courier-Journal in Louisville, Ky. from 2000 to 2013. He was previously a correspondent for Religion News Service, The Boston Globe and other outlets. He received a bachelor of arts degree from Oral Roberts University and a master’s of arts degree in religion from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary.
