A former editor at Psychology Today and at Women Under Siege, Michele Lent Hirsch is at work on her first book. Centered on young women struck by serious health issues in a world that expects them to be perfect, the book straddles science and health journalism, memoir, and essay, and will be published by Beacon Press. Lent Hirsch's recent nonfiction has also appeared in The Atlantic, and her work on a data journalism project about New York's stop-and-frisk policy has been featured on Mashable and Feministing. Her poetry has been published in the Bellevue Literary Review, Rattle, and Spillway, among other outlets. A contributor to Smithsonian magazine, she is an adjunct lecturer of journalism at Manhattanville College.
